We Sing Justinas Marcinkevičius. Vinyl Record Presentation

The closing concert of the VII International Rimvydas Žigaitis Arts Festival, dedicated to World Culture Day. We invite you to a warm and meaningful musical evening dedicated to one of Lithuania’s brightest poets – Justinas Marcinkevičius. The concert will feature songs created based on his poems – both well-known and beloved by audiences, as well as less frequently heard or entirely new ones, created by the composers Galina Savinienė, Giedrius Kuprevičius, Benjaminas Gorbulskis, Gintautas Tautkus, Laimis Vilkončius and other authors. For more than two decades, we have continually returned to the works of Justinas Marcinkevičius in our concerts, so this evening will be not only a journey through music, but also through personal memories and reflections. We will share thoughts about the poet, the meaning of his work and its place in our lives, about how his verses have matured in our hearts and on stage over many years of shared experience with listeners. Singer Liudas Mikalauskas conveys J. Marcinkevičius’s poetry with exceptional sensitivity and persuasiveness, while pianist Beata Vingraitė has been connected to the poet’s work by a close bond that began in childhood. This fellowship gives the concert a special sincerity and authenticity. Marking the fifteenth anniversary of the poet’s passing, we have released a vinyl record featuring songs created solely from Justinas Marcinkevičius’s texts. During the concert we will not only present this special release to Lithuanian listeners, but also invite everyone to once again hear the poet’s words, which even today speak of human beings, love, homeland and hope.
