Anniversary Concert of the Anykščiai Cultural Center Folk Dance Ensemble “Gojus”

Founded in 1991, “Gojus” has united people of different generations for 35 years, for whom Lithuanian dance is not only a stage, but also fellowship, friendship, travels and a living tradition of national culture. The ensemble’s name itself is symbolic – gojus means the most beautiful place in the forest, full of life, colors and resonance. Such diverse, colorful and vibrant is “Gojus” itself.

Throughout its existence, the ensemble has presented the name of Anykščiai and Lithuania at numerous festivals in the country and internationally. “Gojus” dances have resounded and twirled in Austria, Belgium, Italy, Portugal, Turkey, Peru, Qatar and other countries around the world. In 2023, the ensemble reached the final of the international “Cheonan World Dance Festival” in South Korea. “Gojus” has won awards at national folk dance competitions, including first places in “Klumpakojis” competitions and laureate status at “Aguonėlė”.

Today, both youth and elders dance in the ensemble. Its activities place special emphasis on Lithuanian dance traditions, authentic national costumes and representation of the native region. In 2026, young “Gojus” dancers also represented the Anykščiai region at the Lithuanian Students’ Song Festival. The ensemble is led by Jūratė Uselienė and Nerita Strazdienė.

The anniversary evening is an opportunity for “Gojus” history, present day and the people who have created this ensemble over more than three decades to meet on one stage.
