The programme will feature the work “Sacred Concerto” by legendary American composer Duke Ellington for choir, big band, organ and soprano. This is a combination of jazz, gospel and classical music, where the traditions of a genre that flourished in the 17th century intertwine with 20th-century jazz performance traditions, turning the work into a festive and uplifting celebration of praise. D. Ellington created three works in this genre and called them “the best thing I have ever done”. This concert is the second; its premiere took place in 1968. After the first performance, critics wrote that “the material is new, it is far from being a collection of old and new pieces, and wishing to be as universal as possible, D. Ellington employed new techniques and sounds that exceed the usual big band spectrum”. This uplifting work continues to resonate on concert stages around the world, and will visit Lithuania for the first time. Ticket prices: 10, 15 EUR.
