In the concert “Chorus Jazz”, you will hear both of these ensembles in a slightly different light than usual. The program will feature the work “Sacred concerto” by legendary American composer Duke Ellington for choir, big band, organ, and soprano. This piece is a fusion of jazz, gospel, and classical music that intertwines elements of 17th-century genres and 20th-century jazz traditions, turning the work into a festive and uplifting celebration of praise. D. Ellington created three works of this genre and called them “the best thing I have ever done.” This concert is the second, with its premiere taking place in 1968. After the first performance, critics wrote that “the material is new; this is far from a collection of old and new pieces, and in an attempt to be as versatile as possible, D. Ellington employed new techniques and sounds that surpass the usual big band spectrum.” This uplifting piece continues to resonate on stages around the world and will visit Lithuania for the first time.
