Film “DIVORCES DURING WAR”

Marius Repšys, like you’ve never seen before, and Žygimantė Elena Jakštaitė, who will be hard to forget. Some of the most brilliant Lithuanian cinema actors of today meet in an emotionally charged love drama “Divorces During War”, which even made it to US cinemas. Marija is an ambitious head of a department at a large advertising agency. Vytas is a self-searching film director. It would seem their marriage lacks nothing. The couple lives in an impeccably decorated home, raising a daughter. A family like any other. But Marija feels unhappy. When the woman finally decides to admit that she wants a divorce, she chooses the worst possible time for an open conversation. Do divorces always mean failure? Or perhaps, on the contrary, everything turns out for the better? After all, who can say how to part on good terms? There are no instructions, and the tension only grows. The third film by “Silver Crane” laureate Andriaus Blaževičiaus at the prestigious Sundance Film Festival (USA), founded by Oscar-winning actor Robert Redford, won the Best Director award. In the film M. Repšys (“China Sea”, “The Saint”) played the gentlest role of his career, and Ž. E. Jakštaitė (“The Runner”, “Renovation”), winner of the 2021 Rising Star of European Cinema award, once again proved that she has few equals in contemporary Lithuanian cinema.
