Folk Artists Exhibition
Exhibition of works by folk artists Irena Vaišnorienė and Virginija Šimkienė at the Juozas Liaudanski Art Gallery of Kelmė Cultural Center (Vytautas the Great St. 73) Folk artist Irena Vaišnorienė began painting at a mature age, at 55 years old. She mostly painted still lifes. Since 2022, she has been a member of the Folk Artists Association. In 2025, she was granted the status of art creator. Over five years of creative work, the folk artist has held over 30 exhibitions in Lithuania and Latvia. As the author says: “I am fascinated by the beauty of simple, everyday objects, their form, texture, play of light and harmony of colors. I believe that even the simplest object can become meaningful when you look at it differently – more carefully, more sensitively, with feeling. For me, creativity is a path to myself. A path where I don’t always know in advance where the next stroke will lead. But even when my hand hesitates, my heart usually already knows the direction…” Folk artist Virginija Šimkienė’s activities include not only the creation of authentic lace, but also its presentation at folk art exhibitions and the conduct of educational classes for the local community. In 2013, the master held her first solo exhibition. In 2016, she was elected Folk Artist of the Year for Šiauliai District. According to Virginija Šimkienė, you need to know the person you are knitting for, so that the handmade work suits them and pleases them. The folk artist uses patterns studied in old knitting books in her work, finding much information on internet portals. The post Folk Artists Exhibition appeared first on KelmėsKC.
