Open Creative Exhibition by KKKC Resident Arūnė Baronaitė

From September, an open creative exhibition by KKKC resident, artist, and researcher Arūnė Baronaitė is taking place at the Art Courtyard of Klaipėda Cultural Communications Center (KKKC), Bažnyčių Street 4. This courtyard has always been filled with art, and at various times different art galleries operated on different floors of this building. To revive this tradition, we are creating an open gallery at the Art Courtyard. Arūnė Baronaitė is an artist and researcher whose creative practice is shaped by photography, ecology, microbiology, and field research. Her practice stems from years of laboratory experience, work with marine ecosystems, and participation in expeditions in the Baltic Sea region, the Curonian Spit, Northern Sweden, and Finland. These experiences allow her to view landscape not as a backdrop or image, but as a living, vulnerable, constantly changing medium in which traces of human activity, climate change, depletion, and renewal accumulate. In her works, Arūnė combines analog photography, organic dyes, chromatography, microbial processes, archival materials, and documentation. She works with soil, algae, mosses, water, sand, microorganisms, and photographic emulsions, allowing these materials not only to become the object of the artwork, but to actively shape the image itself. In her practice, photography is not merely a means of representation – it is a sensitive surface where the environment can leave marks, wounds, and signs of growth, decay, and transformation. Expeditions, travels, fieldwork, and laboratory work in her creative process become not separate research stages, but a way of being with material. Forest, sea, and earth act here as interconnected systems: they breathe, ferment, rot, bloom, settle, record, and erase. Through these processes, Arūnė speaks of ecological grief – not as a completed loss, but as a prolonged encounter with an injured world, where decay and life constantly occur together. Exhibition visiting hours: Monday-Tuesday from 09:00 to 16:30. Wednesday-Friday from 09:00 to 18:30. Saturday-Sunday from 11:00 to 18:30. Admission is free.
