Concert of romance and love songs “Dainuoju Širvį”.

Romances, love songs, and retro music are currently popular, in demand, and have their own audience; they are often heard in different spaces and at different times. They are performed by various artists – from folklore ensembles to opera soloists.
With love and admiration, the folklore ensemble “Nalšia” also weaves romance melodies – sometimes conventionally, “in the old style,” and sometimes daring to depart from authentic traditions of music-making and singing, choosing newer sounds and interpretive paths more familiar to today’s listener. For several years now, the ensemble has sought to give romances a second life, elevating them to the level of works worthy of a high musical culture: starting with the words – singing the lyrics of the best Lithuanian poets – and ending with music-making together with jazz pianist Rytas Linge, who enriches the romance arrangements with new, unexpected colors.
This is exactly the newest “Nalšia” program, “Dainuoju Širvį”. The exceptional lyricism of the most beautiful verses by poet Paulius Širvys, the depth of his experiences, and the poet’s extraordinary personality captivate; the poems seem to beg to be sung. The synthesis of great poetry and the most beautiful romance melodies beloved by people stirs the hearts of NALŠIA’s singers and, we hope, will leave listeners indifferent as well.
We will also gladly present the long-developed, eagerly awaited new compact disc of romances and love songs of the same title, released on the occasion of the ensemble’s 35th anniversary. Emotionally rich, melodic P. Širvys’ lyric poetry, already heard in the voices of “Nalšia” singers for nearly a decade, has finally been immortalized and can be reached by everyone who loves both his poetry and romances. And for us, Širvys remains a true bard, truly sung, seemingly still waiting near Vilnius, near the city of fairy tales…
“Nalšia” sings Širvys:
“Sartų žuvėdra”
“Jūreivis”
“Krito žiedlapiai”
“Žiburiai”
